"Come now, what masques, what dances shall we have to wear away this long age of three hours between our after supper and our bedtime?" (A Midsummer Nights Dream V: 1)

Martin McKennaWinner of the 1995 British Fantasy Award for Best Artist, Martin McKenna brings fame (but not fortune) to CARPG. A Successful 17 year career in illustration for publishers in the UK, US and elsewhere, including Penguin Books, HarperCollins, Little Brown, Oxford University Press to name but a few demonstrates an enviable pedigree. Naturally, Martin is in charge of graphic content and all things pictorial.

A long association with the role-playing and board games industries including design and illustration work for Games Workshop, Hasbro, Palladium Books, and Wizards of the Coast has established Martin as a respected name within the industry. Perhaps sharing stories such as "I took 'special effects wizard' Ray Harryhausen out for his first ever curry. He didn't know what to order and confessed he hoped he wouldn't choose something that 'might blow his wig off'." suggests a lack of confidential concern and could tarnish that respect. However Martin believes a shared love of the portrayal of beasts spiky and skeletal allows people to forgive a lot. This incident and some other incongruous meetings are defining moments in Martin's life; they certainly show his appreciation for the surreal and strange, which is vital when trying to illustrate the very limits of the imagination.

Varied work within the computer games industry, including 3 years as development team artist with Eidos Interactive (publishers of the Tomb Raider games u mug), and design work for InterActive Vision and Square USA, acknowledge that Martin is just as comfortable and successful working in a digital environment. This provides CARPG with an Illustrator who understands, utilises, and can think beyond a variety of creative media to achieve fantastic results.
